dining room make over: a little progress

Several weeks ago I made some curtains for the dining room. I copied the style of my Ikea curtains and took pictures along the way so I should be able to write up a tutorial if anyone out there is interested. I found this fabric at my favorite fabric store, Mary Jo's. It is unlike what I usually buy for my home. It is a multicolor floral print. The fabric is made by Richloom, called Invigodk (sometimes labeled as Invigorate) in Confetti. It is currently available here, at Mary Jo's cloth store.

I started the curtains after I found out I was pregnant and got sick shortly after and forced myself to finish them. To this day I feel sick whenever I look at the curtains. I am hoping that one day the urge to vomit will fade. I hate wasting time and money!!

Aside from the curtains, I have painted the dining room (Martha Stewart- Cumulus Cloud) and finished painting the hutch (hint: I didn't go with aqua or green!), now I just have to paint the chairs. The bright yellow I originally wanted to do definitely doesn't go with the muted shades in the curtains. I am thinking orange?

Warning: don't look too close to the curtain rods... I hung the one on the left and many, many days passed until my husband sweetly suggested he hang the one on the right. He carefully measured but somehow the rods are so not level! Maybe some day I will find the energy to fix it. Probably the same day I find the energy to finally hem the curtains on the left!! Until then I will just keep pretending that they are perfect. :)

Erin, The curtains look great. I love the fabric! My best friend made curtains for her living room with the same fabric in a different color pattern (earth tones). Hope that you and #4 learn to love them!

i get the urge to vomit when i see your curtains and i'm not even pregnant. hah hah, kidding kidding. i think they really dress up the dining room. and they go very well with the color of the hutch! (i wonder if your fans are jealous that i get to see all these things in person?)
if you paint your chairs orange, i will be very jealous since that is the color jon wouldn't go for at our house. :)

I LOVE that fabric! Is the name of the fabric Josette?? Cause it sure looks like they match this chair I've had my eye on:

The curtains look great. I hope you start getting your energy back soon. Amazing how much it takes out of us to grow a new person. :) That's the most important creating you can do right now.

Erin, I know exactly what you mean about the fabric bringing back memories of the icky phase. I went on a shopping spree when our local fabric store was having a sale, now whenever I look at the fabric it makes me sick to my stomach. Maybe things will change after I have my baby, but I sure don't feel inspired right now by that stuff. Ick!

Dear Erin,

I just went through a BUNCH of posts on your blog and came to the conclusion of a few things.

#1- You are an incredible woman and INCREDIBLY talented.

#2- Next time I come home you are really going to have to teach me the art of shopping at thrift stores and finding deals.

#3- I am so buying tons of stuff from you when I have a home of my own and have babies (Unless by some miracle I overcome my fear of sewing machines.).

#4- You have an amazing sense of style.

#5- I have tons to learn from you when I come home for Christmas!!!

Love you!

you're reading my mind, Erin! I just painted my living room a similar color and have been looking for fun, floral fabric for some curtains. My next step was taking a trip to Mary Jo's - I just might have to copy you on this one! :)
