i caved

i am not really keen on the disney princess empire. i am not totally anti though. my daughter Sutton has books and toys and a few dvds but i have always refused to decorate with or dress Sutton in disney princess garb.

BUT recently Sutton started waking up at night because she was scared of the wall. that's right, the WALL. she was so scared that she wouldn't even sleep on her bed anymore.

while at wal-mart Sutton spotted princess fabric and she wanted it so bad. i asked her if i made a princess pillow case if she would sleep in her bed. she said she would. i was doubtful but went for it anyway.

that night i made her the princess pillow case and we talked before bed. i told her that she had her princesses there with her and she had "princess power" and a bunch of other garbage (i was so desperate for a full nights sleep i would have told her anything!). then we took turns smacking the wall and saying "i'm not scared of you!"

and it worked! she now sleeps in her bed again and hasn't talked about the wall for more than a week. go princess power!

i feel the exact same way about disney princess stuff. my girls have lots of the books, but i really hate the clothes, PJs, curtains, etc.

but hey, i would have done the same thing if it helped my child to sleep. sleep is PRICELESS!

thats cute.

my only advice (speaing from experience) go buy another one while they are still there. the exact same one!

my son got attached to something and it got so dirty (ok i know hes a boy but..) and if it ever gets lost in the wash or something you may never sleep again! lol

and i know it feel silly 'giving advice' to a woman (who imo is the craftiest and most creativist person ever!) who also has 3.5 kids, but i HAD to say that lol. every mom does it. (still weird calling myself a mom he is 3 btw)

A mommy's got to do what a mommy's got to do!

I think it's ok to cave if you can make something good out of it. I swore those princesses would NEVER be in my house, but someone else showed my twins Snow White, and it was all over. Now we use the Disney princesess to teach generosity and thoughtfulness. After all, other than the fact that they all have to be "saved," they are pretty kind women. Oh, and losing costume priviledges is WAY more effective than time out:)

I don't think it's odd she was scared of the wall. My son did this same exact thing to the point we were using "monster be gone" spray (i think it was just water or a light air freshener) and would have to scream and we had this whole night time routine to keep the monsters out. Poor kids!!!
