have you heard of freezer paper stencils? they are great fun. i have freezer paper stenciled t-shirts, onesies and bibs. recently i wanted to embellish my daughters lamp shade but i wasn't sure how. then i got the crazy idea to use freezer paper stencils on it. i painstakingly cut out the very detailed zinnia design. i layered three sheets so i only had to cut out the design once thankfully.
i have to be honest, i would probably not do this again. it was almost impossible to get the freezer paper to stick to my linen lamp shade and the end result was not as clean as you usually get with the freezer paper stencils. i also had to be really careful to not melt the plastic liner when ironing the stencil onto the shade.
see how smudged the flowers are? it drives me nuts!
but sutton ooohed and ahhhed over the lamp and it looks good from a distance so we'll keep it!

I guess I'll have to see it in person because you can't really tell that the flowers are smudged. You're way more patient than I am! It looks lovely on Sutton's nightstand.
yeah, doesn't look smudged at all to me either, so no worries-- you haven't ruined your perfect reputation for amazing home projects!
I think it looks just right! Plus, I've noticed smudges and other perfections are hardly ever noticed by other people!
Coincidentally, I just updated two bedroom lamp shades this week by gluing on new fabric and trim. It was super easy to stretch and glue the fabric, the glue was messy at first, but dried clear without any muck. So, if you did another, you might try the stencil patter on a piece of fabric cut to the size of the lamp shade, which you could then glue on with fabric glue!

What a great idea for redecorating a lampshade! Last year I was looking around for some funky lampshades and got SO disappointed.
I'm impressed you did that all with freezer paper and an exacto. Serious props.

Wow, that is SO pretty! I want to do this asap. I've been looking for a plain orange shade. I think a white shade with this in orange would be perfect for my needs. I'll be linking as well. green me alison- you are right it would have been so much easier to paint flat fabric and then adhere it to the shade. i really should have thought of that. especially since i have recovered lamp shades in the past!! thanks for the suggestion!
