pleated ruffle t-shirt

I have tried a couple of t-shirt refashions lately that have not worked out. So I decided to ditch being original and adopt someone elses creative genius. Today that creative genius was borrowed from Ashley of Make it and Love it. I adore the top she made for her daughter.

So I made one for myself. It was quick and easy, about 25 minutes. I used a $5 white shirt from walmart. (it's actually a really nice t-shirt. soft and thick, but not too thick) I cut up an old shirt for the pleats and the strips on the sleeves.

While Ashley's daughter is certainly much more adorable in her t-shirt than I am in mine, I am very happy with the result. I think I will be wearing it a lot this summer. I love white in the summer, somehow it makes me feel less hot.

p.s.- Those earrings are one of the many pairs Jamie sent me. I love 'em!

I think that you are adorable in everything that you wear. Is is because I remember so clearing what a beautiful, wonderful little girl you were and look at you today and still see a beautiful and wonderful big girl?

You look beautiful and the shirt is great, you inspire me. Not enough to sew but inspired non the less.

Nice! I have used her sleeve technique on a couple shirts and tutorials since seeing that tutorial.

Nice! I wonder how it'll hold up in the wash. I've had mixed success with my knit fabric-embellished tees. Sometimes my add-ons (like ruffles)go totally flat after a few washes-- this one looks like it might be fine, though...

It does look so nice and summery-- I want to make one now!

@Steph- I have had that problem too. In fact, after posting this the top part of the pleating kept flopping down. So I tacked the pleating down (under the folded part so it is unseen). I am hoping between that and ironing before wearing it should be okay.

@Joy- That picture was actually taken at a park. The lady was dressed kind of like a prostitute in a skimpy and sparkly blue dress. The big guy was taking her picture. Strange but it definitely made me less self conscious about snapping pictures of myself :)

I like that embellishment you made at the top. Very pretty. i'm not much into "ruffles", but I think this version is the perfect twist!
