One of my goals last year was to learn how to french braid. I didn't accomplish it in 2010 but I have now. Better late than never!

My mom showed me some braiding tips when she was here and I have been practicing since. My braiding is far from perfect but I'm working on it. Next, I want to figure out how to do a crown braid. I loved wearing my hair in a crown braid when I was little. This is me in preschool with a crown braid. I sure wish my hair had stayed that color!!

It is (surprisingly) easier to braid my own hair than to braid Sutton's. She hates the process but she loves the result.

Here I did a braid on either side of her head. She called it a braid headband. I love not having hair hanging in her face.

Sutton especially loved this next one. Two french braids clipped together. I made the yellow rosette clip a couple of months ago. Too bad Sutton lost it in the backyard five minutes after we took this picture. :)

While we are on the subject of hair, today I am sporting the "three twisted buns" look I have seen popping up all over the blog world, seen first at cup of jo. My curls add to the messy look but it sure is comfortable to have the hair off my neck and a fun change from my usual ponytail.

It's very fitting I am posting about braids on a Wednesday. I just found a flickr group called braid wednesday- lots of great inspiration there! I think I should join to make sure I keep up on my new skill! Who's with me?

I love the twisted bun look! Love that little clip you made. Did you find it? Her hair did look darling with the braids and the flower!

How fun! You are lucky to have those curls; not only are they gorgeous, they also hold it all together really well! I'm so impressed at how well you can do your own hair!

We love braids at our house too... with 2 girls it's super fun. I have found a great little site for all thing girly hair... They even have video tutorials on how to put certain braids and looks together. Funny because as I am writing this, we just finished doing the "clover" in Miss Jillian's hair for school today ;-) Fun!

I am trying to french braid my daughter's's so fine I have a hard time. Sutton's version looks do-able. Great job.

I learned how to braid on my own head too. I still think it's easier than braiding someone else's. I love the three bun look I might have to try that one myself.

You look great, by the way.

loved the pictures, but I thought that I had invented the crown braid back in the '80's when you with 'abundant patience' let me play with your hair. So very disappointed. Do you have the picture from preschool with the crown braid? If not I need to send it to you. Let me know. Love you so much

Hi! I'm new to your blog but I love it so far. :) I find it easier to braid my own hair than other peoples also. I'm not sure why. I think yours and your daughters hair is very cute in these! Great job!
I follow a few hair blogs with some great styles and tutorials in case your interested. These are my two favorites but you can find others from there.

I'll try re-braiding my girls hair after it grows back from KD giving herself a mullet on Christmas Eve. Another good way to keep hair out of faces (my girls' hair is really fine and it doesn't always stay in braids) is to do two mini buns - we call them Shrek ears - on the left and right top of their heads.

Gosh, you are just CUTER THAN CUTE! And your little girl is ADORABLE! What an attractive family you all make! As for braids...I'm afraid I cannot join you. ;-)

much love: kimberellie (with a baby in her belly)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! I have been french braiding since I was a little girl. It's so fun!!!!

Until just this moment, I had never heard of the 3 bun twist. I will definately have to try that one out. I have long dreadlocs. It will be interesting to see how it comes out!
