easter dresses

Two years ago I made Sutton an Easter dress and the boys, including Michael, matching ties. My outfit coordinated too. Honestly, I think my husband was a little embarrassed but I thought it was fun even if a little over the top.

I can't remember if I made any Easter clothes last year. If I did, I didn't blog about it.

I had planned to make matching Easter dresses for Sutton and Gemma but I wasn't going to makes ties again. Too much effort, too little time.

I made a dress for Sutton but it didn't turn out as I wanted so I grabbed a partly finished dress I started a while ago and finished that. The dress was inspired by Katiedid's dresses that she made for her girls a few years ago. (Side note: Anyone else wish Katie was still blogging??)

Sutton was pretty pleased with the dress, as you can see. Although she doesn't love the dress as much as she loves to pose. :)

And no, she didn't wear those boots to Church!

After the failure of Sutton's first dress, I didn't even attempt to make one for Gemma. Which worked out well because one of my friends gave Gemma this adorable dress. I love the yellow and navy together. Plus is has stripes and polka dots! Love.

This isn't a great picture of the dress. Gemma hasn't figured out how to pose just yet. Ha, ha.

Here's the whole crew. We don't match. Heck, we don't even coordinate but I don't care. I have been thinking about my priorities a lot lately and I have come to a realization that I put too much effort into unimportant things. So I am trying to change that.

Those five people in the picture are where my focus needs to be. Do you ever struggle with your priorities? How do you find a balance?

Hmm... this post really took a different direction than I planned. :)

I hope you all had a great Easter!!

Your family looks great! And you're right about the things that don't matter. If they're fun, then great, but if you're stressing over them -- absolutely not worth it.

PS...that's quite the model in training you have! So cute!

Sutton looks VERY happy with her dress...and I love the boots. I see a very happy family, regardless of what you're wearing. :)

I love Sutton's dress! Too bad I didn't get to see it on Sunday at dinner. We have trouble balancing priorities and we don't even have kids yet. I honestly don't know how you do it. I think you're doing a great job. :)

I had a year of imbalance and insanity (had a 5th baby, seriously injured husband, mom with cancer, tragic family death, etc) and I absolutely learned what is important - and it's not having a clean house, perfect nails, or looking like the Jones'. I think your post came out perfectly. I also learned how to speak the truth in love, and not be a doormat - still striving on keeping the house clean enough not to have the county show up - I think I'm making progress there. :) Blessings of Easter to you and your family.

One of the reasons I love your blog so much is because I feel like you DO make an effort to have balance. So often I see blogs where there are postings almost everyday and even though they are amazing to look at, it makes me wonder what these women are sacrificing to do all of this. Not to mention the feelings of supreme inferiority I get after looking at them:) I think you're great!

I don't know...I think matching is a good priority...when it's possible! I always do family costumes for Halloween. But this year the only one who got a costume at all was my son. I just couldn't fit it all! So yeah...I know what you mean. I really do wish I had another (robot) me to get some stuff done. Then I wouldn't have to worry about priorities.

Right now my main priority is eating. A strange, delightful, and most likely hormonal, change comes over me when I am pregnant: I stop being my neurotic self and become really lazy and food obsessed and never criticize myself for it. It's awesome. I wish it lasted!!

ps. did I mention your family is very attractive and I just want to squish your littlest two's cheeks?

I don't struggle with the BIG priorities anymore. Family first. My process goes something like this... I don't like looking forward to looking back with regret.....so I will (fill in the blank). I don't like learning things the hard way so I keep my eyes open for the little lessons that get sent first! And I always keep in mind that life is too short, make your choices accordingly. That is what I have learned so far and it helps me line up my ducks. Hope your Easter was great!

By the way, I forgot to say you all look great! And I think the rain boots are perfect!

Man, you're lucky you got Sutton to take off her rain boots for church. My girls love certain shoes and can put up a good fight if they want to wear them. In my case, they were just dressy shoes that were slightly too small, so I didn't pick that battle on Sunday. :)

You have a beautiful family. And I think Sutton's boote really MAKE that outfit!

I struggle dwith juggling priorities all the time. All part of being a mom, I guess.

Erin, The most striking thing to me is that you mentioned the 5 people in the picture. There are SIX people in the picture! Like most moms, you forgot to include YOURSELF! I too struggle with the balance of it all. We are a family of 5 (3 kids, hubby and I) and I feel like I find a balance - most of the time. A stranger on an airplane gave me the most amazing advice EVER! I was pregnant with my 3rd baby and I was upset that I had left town with my house a mess. The lady in the next seat had 3 teenagers. She simply said to me "oh honey, you REALLY need to lower your standards." My family was then and is now, clean, happy and well cared for. Lunches are packed, homework is done, boo-boos are kissed. I feel like a good worker, mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. At the same time, there is a mess on my dining room table, the tub has a ring in it (not the diamond kind), the shoes near the front door are a bonafide tripping hazzard and the boys rooms look like a bomb went off. There's no risk that the health department will condem the house, but my mother-in-law is looking at me askance. Somewhere between baby #1 and baby #2 I surrendered the idea that I would get it all done perfectly. It will all get done - eventually. And for now, that's enough!

Absolutely amazing. Great job with the dress. I do love navy and yellow together. I tried to get a family photo on Sunday but with 3 young boys and a hubby who doesn't like pictures I had to forgo it. Maybe I can convince them next year...

The dresses turned out great. Good job Mama. I adore the stripes and polka dots on Gemma's dress.

SO, I've been feeling the same way about priorities. I love to sew and scrapbook and craft but when I try too hard to make it happen I feel it in other areas of my life. I want to be a good mom and wife and friend and if that means I don't get to sew or craft very much than that will have to be okay. There will be more time for those things later. Thanks for reminding me that it is okay! :)
