felt advent calendar

Last year when I saw Brooke of Inchmark's felt advent calendar, I wanted to make one just like it but I don't have the patience for such a detailed project (she hand stitched the entire thing!). So using this advent calendar as my inspiration I made a my own version.

In each pocket there is a little strip of paper telling what we will do to celebrate for that day. Yesterday was 'Buy a Christmas Tree'. Tonight is 'Trim the Tree'. One of the nights we will be watching Home Alone. Not one of my favorite movies to be sure, but I am thinking the humor is right up my 6 year old's alley. Of course we will have more spiritual activities- reading Christmas books, reading the nativity story in the Bible, watching the Christmas Devotional (click here for last years) and using the resources on this page.

It was really easy and cost less than $5. The only tedious part was cutting out all the numbers.

What a wonderful idea -- putting a slip of paper in each pocket with a way to celebrate that day! I like that so much better than tucking in candies or little toys!

Cute :) I always loved these as a child. When you've put the kids to bed one night, you should watch Love Actually (if you haven't already). It is one of the sweetest, heartwarming Christmas movies I've seen :)

Too cute! I usually put candy in my advent calendars, but I love the idea of the strips of paper.

I cut the numbers for my advent with my sizzix. (Like a die-cut machine). It works great on felt. Here is a link http://margaret-hansen.blogspot.com/2009/11/1-of-my-christmas-to-do-list-that-is.html
