thrifty finds

I mentioned my thrifted desk and night table a couple of weeks ago and had a lot of requests for pictures. Sorry it has taken me so long. I probably should have just waited to share once everything was in it's place but I was so excited when I bought the desk and night table that I couldn't wait to tell you all!

As with most old houses our "Master Bedroom" is pretty small- about 11"8' x 12'8". We don't have a separate office so the desk and book shelves reside in the bedroom making the room feel even smaller. It's tight but it works.

Thrifted night tables (stands? Is there a difference?). The one on the left is Michael's and is the one I bought a few weeks ago for $18. The table on the right is mine. I bought it a few years ago. I don't remember how much I spent for it but I think it was $20 or less.

A close up of Michael's night table. It is not identical to mine but pretty darn close!

Here is the $35 thrifted desk. I love it! We used to have a huge IKEA desk but it wasn't used enough to justify the amount of space it took up. We gave it to my sister-in-law. She works from home and needed a big desk. This desk is the perfect size to be tucked into a corner of our bedroom and with the four drawers it actually has more storage space then the huge desk.

Above the desk I hung the family's silhouettes. They are in desperate need of an update though. We have a whole other person in our family now!

When I bought the desk it came with two butterfly knobs. Definitely not my style!

I found some awesome MCM knobs on eBay but was not willing to pay $25/knob. I bought these egg shaped antique bronze knobs at Lowe's for $2.70/knob. I think they look perfect with the desk.

I haven't been thrifting in a couple of weeks. I am itching to go to day but Liam, my oldest, is home sick. So help me live vicariously through you! What amazing thrifted items have you found recently?

Those knobs are perfect on the desk (and the desk is a perfect size). I like your nightstands/drawers. My husband and I recently discussed our opinions on nightstands. I strongly prefer drawers, not an open space (like a lot of hotels) for not very useful things b/c we are definitely short on space. Right now we have a dresser and a mirrored table I couldn't not buy from Target a few years ago. The mismatching is not classy yet. :)

I LOVE your blog. I was thinking about making a silhouette. Do you have a tutorial or a technique you use? I'd like to try doing it.

Your bedroom looks wonderful! I love it all and it doesn't give me the crowded feel. can't wait to come back and laze on the bed with you and watch "Say Yes to the Dress".....you don't have to have another baby though (unless you want to)
love you,
mom

That desk looks great. And you're so cool for actually keeping a lot of your vintage natural. Painted is so in right now, it's like, gah, it was very beautiful before.

@Kathy- that book is called a Quad Combination- it has The Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price- all the LDS scriptures. You should see mine. I have the Quad in large print. It is enormous and weighs almost 5 lbs! It's easy to read though! ha!

Love the desk & those night stands!! Gorgeous.

I went majorly thrift shopping last weekend & found (and posted about here: http://melissaesplin.com/2011/10/thrifty-chic-hush-puppies/) some gorgeous hush puppy moccasins for $23. More than I usually spend, but they'd never been worn & I totally fell in love.

I also found a 100% wool burgundy calf-length winter coat for $8. Its in perfect condition. Silk lining? YES, please. It's about 1/2 inch too short in the arms, but fits perfectly everywhere else. Reminds me of a coat I tried on years ago at Anthro that was $300. Can't wait for the cool weather to set in so I can sport it!

I love your master bedroom! Our computer desk is in our room, too, but it works- since the hubby can "work" (ie play) on the computer, and I can read in bed... it's like a date! haha. But your room still looks nice, non-chaotic, and very pretty! Love the thrift finds! Especially the desk. Very simple and classy. Love, love.
